Packaging Operator
40 Hours per week
Salary: 21-24k Per Annum dependent on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Allendale Brewery as Packaging Operator, working within a small team. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of canning and kegging procedures and this new position will be primarily responsible for daily packaging operations, machine maintenance and ensuring a consistent quality product output. Secondary responsibilities would also include supporting the cellaring and warehousing teams. We need someone who has excellent practical skills, great attention to detail and a positive attitude.

The job is physically demanding and involves working in all areas of the packaging operation, including tasks such as operating the canning and keg lines, filtration, transferring beer, cleaning tanks and maintaining packaging and other ancillary equipment. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to build on their packaging experience and join a growing area of our business. An engineering background is also desirable and a flexible approach to working requirements essential.
Experience and qualifications are desirable, but not essential, as full training will be provided.

As we undergo further expansion, our operating hours will change to include shifts, which could be from 6 AM to 10 PM Monday to Friday, with some occasional weekend working.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily setup and CIP of kegging / canning line
  • Daily operation of canning line and supporting equipment (automated depalletiser, in-line carbonator, laser ink date coder, in-line labeller, conveyors, etc)
  • Prepping, filling and handling of kegs.
  • Ensure product is in the proper condition (temperature, etc.)
  • Ensure all canning activity is done according to specification regarding yield, can fill-height, dissolved oxygen levels, seaming standards, and material loss
  • Accurate data entry into spreadsheets and brewery management software.
  • Ensure regular maintenance and cleanliness of packaging equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the brewery space in general

 

Ideal Skills:

  • Experience working on a brewery canning line operation
  • Experience working in a production/packaging brewery or manufacturing environment
  • or….technical/professional training in a mechanical field 
  • Practical minded with the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve quickly
  • Ability to cope with repetitive heavy lifting
  • Operation of complex machinery
  • Strong work ethic and a team player 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Self-motivated with a keen attention to detail
  • Willingness to assist with tasks outside key responsibilities
  • Communicate efficiently with team and management
  • Valid forklift licence would be an advantage, but not essential as training can be provided.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing individual to join our small team to make sure our customers get the Allendale Beers and Ride Hard Seltzers they want, when they want them! 

We are based in a rural area just outside Allendale, so you’ll need your own transport.

The position is office based, but often hands on, with staff roles overlapping, so a degree of flexibility is required, as is a keen interest in helping the business to grow.  You’ll need previous admin experience, ideally within a sales environment or a manufacturing industry. You will be well organised, with great attention to detail, exceptional record keeping and communication skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office. You’ll be proactive and used to working without supervision and, conversely, also able to take directions in a supporting role, assisting with internal projects and development.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Working within a small team, monitor & deal with incoming e-mails, adding orders to our system and updating call schedules and notes every time.  Forward any emails as necessary.
  • Develop & maintain ongoing customer relationships to promote sales.
  • Outbound/Inbound telesales
  • Generate growth via new customer acquisitions
  • Management of existing customer accounts
  • Liaising with Contract customers and associated admin
  • Monitor credit control/customer ledger, liaising with accounts team as necessary
  • Process paperwork/cash received back from drays daily including: send copy invoices where required, scan where required, submit SIBA invoices, submit online invoices using customers' own systems. Enter journals for cash expenses eg Tyne Tunnel, Screen Wash etc. Correct errors relating to products delivered & ensure customers are satisfied with replacements.  Ensure cash is collected as expected & chase amounts not received as per arrangements.
  • Process orders & ensure lines are correctly priced, necessary POs in place etc. Ensure correct discounts, delivery days are entered, identify where empty containers also require uplift and arrange collection
  • Perform due diligence checks for new customers as required.
  • Complete & process cash book/Input customer receipts on bank
  • Deal with any account queries from customers, e-mail copy invoices to customers on request
  • Process shop till invoice & cash /card allocation when necessary, plus PDQ end of day process.
  • Follow up credit control/process monthly customer statements as required
  • Serve customers in shop - remembering to complete the re-stock lists where necessary
  • File sales invoices, dray sheets, remittance advices and return customer pdq receipts with deliveries, keeping all paperwork up to date
  • Data processing and other supporting admin as requested for internal projects
  • Provide cover for other office staff when absent due to holiday or sickness

Cover driver 

Due to the seasonal and often unpredictable nature of the local beer market we are always looking for drivers to cover holidays, unforseen events and extra busy periods. You must be over 25, be very flexible and have a clean driving licence. Experience driving a transit sized vehicle would be an advantage!
