The 2016 Brussels Beer Challenge is now into its 5th year, with over 1100 competing beers being entered this time around. The event has grown in popularity year on year since its launch in 2011 with some of the best Belgian & International Brewers putting their beers forward. The event is held over 3 days and judged by a panel of 75 Internationally renowned tasters, with the likes of Adrian Tierney-Jones & Roger Protz. We decided to enter the Competition due to both the calibre of tasters and the quality of other competing brewers.
After much deliberation on our side, Mosaic was the beer chosen to represent Allendale Brewery at the awards. If you haven’t tried Mosaic before it’s a single hop pale ale that makes a softly bitter and refreshing pint. It’s a real showcase of the Mosaic hop with peach and apricot flavours that are well balanced against the flavour of malt and oats for body. It was also a good chance to get feedback on our beers in can, which is a new area for us. It turns out Mosaic was a good choice as it won a Silver Award!
We are really proud with this latest award at this high profile competition- it is a real testament to the skill of our brewers. As Luc De Raedemaeker, a member of the challenges organising body said in an interview "We have like 1,250 beers coming from 32 countries around the world...” "If you win a medal here...in Belgium, the biggest beer country in the world, it's a huge honour for the brewery."
