Our brewing team were delighted, and very much up for the challenge, when up Newcastle based rock band Dunes approached them with the idea of creating a unique beer to help celebrate their debut album ‘Take Me To The Nasties’.
The guys from the band came up to the brewery to have a look around and talked to the brewers about what they like in a beer, what flavours they prefer and what styles of beer they like and what they’d like to drink if they could create something themselves. Armed with this information, and an advanced copy for inspiration, the team set about creating a ‘Dunes inspired’ beer. The result is the Simcoe Cryo hop IPA ‘Phantom Head’, named after the bands forthcoming single. Weighing in at 7.6% it’s refreshingly smooth and aromatic but really packs a punch. The can/pump clip artwork features the album cover which was created by Dave Longford Kerr of Devil City Design to make it really stand out and to make something collectible for fans of the band and the beer alike.
Dunes formed in 2016 and in their relatively short time have released several EP’s, toured all over the country and have supported the likes of recent mercury nominees IDLES, US band Red Fang (who are renowned within the rock fraternity for their beer consumption!), North East music hero Ginger Wildheart and many more including Monster Magnet, The Picturebooks and Boy Azooga. ‘Take Me To The Nasties’ is available now on Durham based Sapien Records.
Phantom Head is available in 440ml cans at our brewery shop and in a number of the regions best bottle shops. There will also be a limited amount available on tap so keep your eyes out for it in your local pub.
